We did it. We set a new World Land Speed Record for C/PS

As all of you know, our goal was to drive our street legal 2003 Mustang Cobra from Dawsonville, GA. to Bonneville and set a new record at better than 200 mph. Well, we did drive it to Bonneville, but when we got there, the safety inspectors didn’t like us trying to go over 200 mph on the original cast alloy wheels. NGF had done an excellent job of preparing the car, but because of the wheels, we were limited by the safety inspectors to 180 mph.

So, we made our first run Saturday afternoon on the 3-mile course. 100+ degree temperatures and 20 mph cross winds made it very interesting, but we managed to pull of a 174.036, which qualified us for a record run the next morning.

Sunday morning, at 7:20 am we made our record run on the 3-mile course. I had to hold it at 4800 rpms in 6th gear from the 2-mile mark on, so I wouldn’t exceed 180 mph. This gave us a run at 178.996, and a record of 176.516, the average of the two runs.

I can’t thank enough all the people that made this boyhood dream come true. All motor heads dream of going to Bonneville to set a Land Speed Record, and with help of all of you I was able to do it.
